Portland Rent All, a company specializing in equipment rentals—from heavy construction equipment and tools to party rentals—is expanding their hospitality and party rental offerings. This business relies on commercial laundry, dishwashers, and equipment washing systems, necessitating industrial wastewater separation systems.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Portland Rent All abides by the City of Portland’s strict pH and solids limits for sanitary sewer discharge. The City’s limits help maintain the integrity and efficiency of the wastewater treatment process, as well as to prevent corrosion and damage to the sewer infrastructure. The City’s Sanitary Sewer Discharge pH requirements are minimum 5.0 and maximum 11.0, with a Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Maximum of 250 mg/L.
Additional compliance considerations include:
- Monitoring: Regularly use pH probes and TSS sensors to ensure that the wastewater consistently stays within the required pH range and solids limits.
- Adjustment Systems: Implement automated pH and solids adjustment systems that can correct levels that fall outside the accepted ranges using appropriate chemicals or filtration methods.
- Alarms and Notifications: Set up alarm systems that trigger notifications when pH levels or solids concentrations deviate from the set limits, allowing for immediate corrective actions.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of pH levels and solids concentrations as part of compliance reporting to municipal authorities.
ParkUSA designed a custom wastewater pretreatment system that complies with these local regulations. Our Solids Interceptors effectively collect and contain solid substances in commercial wastewater while reducing municipal treatment costs and minimizing environmental impact. We designed and built a LintTrooper® Model LTDB 2500 to specifically meet the project requirements for Portland Rent All. This 2,500-gallon precast concrete interceptor includes filtration pumps as well as a control and communication system.
Designed to intercept fabric fibers, rags, buttons, and other similar items before they enter the public sanitary sewer system, this system is ideal for a rental company that is continually washing linens, tablecloths, and uniforms.
The LintTrooper® precast reinforced basin measures 13′ L x 8′ W x 6′ H and features an interior baffle and sectional clamshell design. It weighs 30,000 pounds and is coated with a high-performance interior epoxy and an exterior waterproof coating to enhance durability. The structure includes aluminum dual hatchways equipped with OSHA-compliant safety nets to prevent falls. Pipe connections utilize resilient rubber boots and stainless steel couplings for robust, leak-proof connections. The filtration mechanism includes a stainless steel platform table with a dual-compartment setup. It features a basket with 1/4″ diameter staggered holes, facilitating easy removal and effective sediment filtration.
The system is equipped with integrated pH probes that continuously monitor and adjust pH levels. It includes a programmable logic controller capable of recording wastewater pH and temperature values, and adjusts them using metering pumps to inject caustic or acidic chemicals, maintaining a pH between 5 and 11, and TSS within 250 mg/L.
Operational statuses and alarms are communicated through cloud technologies to an application accessible on computers, tablets, or smartphones, ensuring real-time monitoring, record keeping, and management.
This custom Solids Interceptor was designed by our ParkUSA team in Houston, manufactured and assembled by our Geneva Pipe and Precast team in Utah, and delivered prepackaged to the project site in Portland. The unit is installed just below grade inside of the Portland Rental All’s expanded warehouse facility. Crews from NessCampbell Crane + Rigging used exacting precision to lift and place the unit into the tightly excavated space. The contractor then completed installation by connecting the pe-plumbed system to the existing inlet and outlet piping, and setting up the cloud-based control system. A field representative from Northwest Pipe Company was on hand to offer support during the installation process.
The LintTrooper® Model LTDB 2500 system not only complies with the City of Portland’s stringent pH and solids standards, but also introduces advanced technological solutions such as IoT-based real-time monitoring and robust filtration mechanisms. As a result, Portland Rental All is well-equipped to handle increased demand while ensuring environmental compliance and operational efficiency, setting a new standard for sustainability in the rental industry.
