Marsh Basin

Wetland Stormwater Treatment System

The MarshBasin™ is a wetland stormwater treatment best management practice (BMP): an engineered ecosystem that emulates the natural wetland's ability to improve water quality. The MarshBasin™ can be used in stand-alone applications, pretreatment for infiltration, rainwater harvesting, and detention applications. It uses a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove nutrients, sediments, hydrocarbons, metals, and trash. It can also be used alongside other BMPs to maximize water quality. Its design allows for use from small urban areas to highly developed cities. The MarshBasin™ is highly adaptable for most developments due to its small footprint and shallow elevation. Typical MarshBasin™ applications include parking lots, sidewalks, gardens, plazas, and streets. The green infrastructure and low-impact development design make the MarshBasin™ a great BMP option in any water quality project.

Pre-filtration: the pre-filtration takes place in the first chamber. Trash sediments, debris, and oils are filtered in this zone by a cartridge filter. Designed for easy maintenance, the filter contributes to removal of total suspended solids (TSS) and hydrocarbons.

Biofiltration: the second chamber holds the biofiltration process. During this event, the storm-water runoff is filtered through the special nutrient-absorbing media, where it filters nutrients and sediments through the layers of the second chamber. Outflow and overflow: the final chamber in the wetland unit is the outflow chamber. This is dedicated to direct the flow outside of the unit and to function as an overflow receiving chamber coming from the second chamber. Intercepting this flow is a stainless steel basket, which filtrates the sediments that may be present.
