Peoria Sports Complex

Project: Peoria Sports Complex
Products: Grease Treatment Systems

Project Information:
Spring training baseball under the warm Arizona sun has been a tradition for devoted fans since 1947, when just two teams, the Cleveland Indians and the New York Giants, came here to prepare for the rigors of the long regular season. Today, 15 teams train in the Phoenix metropolitan area in the greatest concentration of professional baseball facilities found anywhere in the United States. For visitors, the Cactus League couldn't be more convenient, with short drive times between ballparks and a full range of hotel, dining and shopping amenities. Truly, the Cactus League is the premier destination for baseball lovers.

The premier site of the Cactus League is the sprawling Peoria Sports Complex which sits on 145 acres in Peoria, Arizona. The stadium has a seating capacity of more than 11,000. The complex includes twelve major-league-sized practice fields, and currently offers two 38,000 square foot clubhouses, indoor, and outdoor batting tunnels and full concession stands. In addition to professional and amateur baseball activities, the sports complex hosts festivals, arts and crafts shows, concerts, a Sports Fest, car and RV shows, special holiday events, fundraisers and corporate functions.

Major League Baseball’s San Siego Padres and Seattle Mariners set a trend 19 years ago when they partnered with the city of Peoria to develop a sports complex to facilitate spring training. Recently, the two major league teams agreed to renew their lease with the city of Peoria for another 20 years. As part of the agreement, the city will invest $48 million over the life of the contract, which includes an initial investment of $15 million each for improvements in the Mariners and Padres clubhouses ($30 million total) and $6 million in stadium improvements. Construction of clubhouses is expected to be completed by spring of 2014. Potential stadium improvements include seating enhancements, party deck, façade improvements, plaza area, and upgrades to field and lighting systems.

As part of the new renovations, ParkUSA provided three Grease Treatment Systems to provide enhanced treatment of the kitchens and concessions.
